The forest pictures
Since 1960, Bernhard Gewers has found his own form of expression in the "forest pictures" in small-format and detailed coloured drawings in mixed media. They are often abstract landscapes that work atmospherically with light and dark and have vegetation or forest structures as their starting point. In the evenings, after the day's work on larger sculptures and sculptures, he produced about 200 different playful drawings, about which he noted in the 1970s: "In the case of a small number, suitable printed image sections were painted over. It was a joy and relaxation to surrender completely to the moment, to be open and loose to all the suggestions that arose without direction or goal from the momentum of the sketches themselves."
